The folk dance group "Gojus" was founded in 1991 in a small town of Anykščiai (Aukštaitija ethnographic region in East Lithuania).
The name of dance group is symbolic. "Gojus" is the most beautiful place in the forest full of many different kinds of flowers, plants, trees and birds that are singing and make their nests near this place. The dancing group looks like “Gojus” because the people are very different, but they are united by their enthusiasm and excellent feeling of folk dance, folk songs and music style. The dance group consist of approximately 40 young people from aged from 16 to 40. Members of the company are people of different professions, students and school-pupils.
The programs offer thematic sequences of scenes presenting customs, dances and songs of Aukštaitija Region. In the repertoire of the company there are scenic compositions folk dances arranged by well-known Lithuanian authors.
The folk dances are very important for young people, because of influence of modern culture is rather strong. That is why the leader of the group Jūratė Uselienė is so interested in Lithuanian culture and costumes. The costumes are of traditional models and colours of 19th century.
The "Gojus" takes part in different national and international festivals. It took part in all - Lithuania competitions "Kadagys" in Vilnius and it has also been to Latvia, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Bulgaria, Croatia, Check Republic, Turkey, Jordan and other countries. This group is very popular with local people. Folk dances give much pleasure to everybody.
